In some cultures, it is traditional to say that a person’s time has come when they cross over to the other side. Beyond the metaphor, some people hold a deep-rooted belief that we all have an expiration date and time, and that when our time comes, nothing and no one on Earth can stop it.

I do not really understand how we can have an in-built ‘expiry date’. Who sets it, when is it set, and what purpose would it serve? If it is true, then it would mean that someone, somewhere, could see into each person’s future and determine the most suitable time for their demise. I wonder whether that same source could also decide the manner of our passing. I do not know, and perhaps that is a question for another article. Perhaps, by oversimplifying things, we have in fact complicated them and landed ourselves in yet another paradox.

Maybe the truth is staring us in the face, and we have yet to recognise it. The other side may seem mysterious and illogical from our limited perspective, but perhaps it has a logic that we have yet to understand. I am keeping my mind open to all possibilities, at least until my time comes.
