I believe in the power of prayer, and I feel that prayers for others instead of for personal gain have a better chance of being answered.
When I pray, I do it from my heart. Before I begin, I must feel connected to God, the angels and the universe. I do not recite my prayers in a parrot-like fashion but take my time to enunciate every word with feeling. I visualise the person I will be praying for and try to hold their image in my thoughts. Visualisation allows me to ‘connect’ with the person and helps me at a deeper level in my prayer. I must feel love or warmth towards the person I am praying for; otherwise, I see the exercise as futile from my perspective.
Once I have finished my prayer, I leave it to God, hoping that it will be answered. Nonetheless, I accept God’s will and have learned to appreciate it. My heart flutters with joy when I see my prayers for someone has been answered and that they are in a better place. I never believe that I was the reason for it and nor do I take any credit, but I feel delighted for them because the bottom line is that this is what I wanted for them in the first place.
Why do most prayers go unanswered? I remember this line from Oscar Wilde’s notebook: “When the Gods Wish to Punish Us, They Answer Our Prayers.” – Oscar Wilde:”
When we pray, there is a very fine line between what we’re asking for, for what purpose, and for whom. Is it for personal or financial gain? Are we trying to evade a challenge? Do you note the common element being self? Prayer was never intended for personal gain but rather for the betterment of others and for expressing our love and gratitude to God and His blessed angel.
