I was intrigued by why people consider Friday the 13th a day of bad luck, so I decided to do some research online.
“Friday the 13th is considered unlucky because the number 13 and the day Friday were both historically associated with bad luck in Western culture. Over time, religious stories like the Last Supper, historical events such as the arrest of the Knights Templar, and pop culture like Friday the 13th combined to reinforce the superstition.”
The bottom line is that, as far as facts go, the dislike or fear of Friday the 13th is based on superstition, like so many other beliefs. Sometimes I feel that humans thrive on the dark and mysterious. Since we are all gripped by fear to varying degrees, it only takes a fabrication to spread quickly and be accepted as fact or superstition.
In fact, some people and cultures are so superstitious about the number 13 that they go to extreme lengths to avoid it. I have been in elevators with no number 13 on the panel. The number may be replaced with something else, or the building may not even acknowledge a thirteenth floor.
People can be very impressionable when it comes to superstitions. Many would rather not rock the boat or take a risk, so they play it safe, just in case. We are far more advanced than when such superstitions first originated, yet they still affect us. Imagine how profound that impact must have been on people in the past.
Things can go wrong on the 13th or on any other day. Such is life. It is important that we maintain an objective and positive mindset. Otherwise, we may inadvertently invite negativity into our lives.
I am here in service not only as a reader and a healer, but also to bring awareness whenever I can.
Happy Friday the 13th.
