No reader can be 100% accurate all the time. We are human, after all, and like everyone else, we have our limitations and imperfections. Every aspect of life carries its uncertainties. Nothing, and no one, is perfect.
For me, honesty and integrity must always lie at the heart of this work. The process is not about us, nor is it about proving anything to anyone. Our responsibility is to be a channel for the messages that come through, to offer comfort where there is sorrow, and, where possible, to help people find a sense of closure.
If I ever feel I cannot provide my service to the standard I believe is acceptable, I will always offer the option to reschedule for another day. I believe that is the only ethical thing to do.
It would be unfair to a client for me to continue when I know, deep down, that I can’t give them the service they deserve. Proceeding under those circumstances would not be honest and, ultimately, would be unethical.
Someone once asked me how it was possible that, when watching readers on television, they never seemed to encounter the kinds of difficulties I have described. I explained that television is, by its very nature, heavily edited. In a live setting, whether in a private one-to-one session or before an audience at a public event, there is no such safety net. What happens in that moment is real, immediate, and unedited. The uncertainties and challenges are therefore far more visible.
I take my responsibility to the people who consult with me incredibly seriously. They are not booking me simply for entertainment. They are coming to me during what can be an intensely personal and delicate search for answers, reassurance, and closure. Many are already vulnerable. Some are fighting to hold on to their hope and faith, trying to make sense of experiences that have profoundly affected their lives. They place their trust in me, and I never take that trust lightly.
I do everything I can to avoid letting them down. Above all, I believe in being honest, transparent, and clear about what I can and cannot provide. If I sense that we are not connecting, or that I am not sufficiently attuned to the person sitting before me, I will say so. Rather than continue simply because I have been booked, I will offer to reschedule and try another day.
That honesty is often appreciated more than people might imagine. Clients have thanked me for having the courage to acknowledge when the circumstances are not right, rather than simply carrying on for the sake of appearances.
I am deeply grateful for your love and trust. I feel motivated to push myself harder than ever before.
