Can profound sadness have such a devastating impact on a person that it leads to death?
Many would agree that it can. If memory serves me correctly, there are numerous stories of individuals who passed away as a result of a broken heart. I am continually amazed at how much our emotional and mental state can affect the physical body. I believe there is an element of mind over matter at play.
A client recently consulted with me, and during our session, his loved one came through. Although they loved each other deeply, they were unable to be together due to cultural reasons. When she was prevented from seeing him, she began to deteriorate emotionally and physically. Eventually, she died from cardiac arrest. She expressed that her heart was broken because she could not be with the person she loved, and she saw no reason to continue living. It was as if her body began to shut down, gradually reaching the point of no return.
If negative emotions and thoughts can have such a harmful effect on our well-being, then the opposite must also be true. A dear friend of mine, who works in the medical field, once told me that most illnesses can be linked to our emotional or mental state. He always encouraged me to maintain a positive attitude. While this is easier said than done, we often have no other choice if we want to endure the challenges life presents.
From my own experience as a Reader, I must be in a positive state of mind for communication to flow. Before my sessions, prayers, or any spiritual practice, I make an effort to recall things that make me laugh, funny memories, lighthearted events, or joyful, silly thoughts that lift my spirit. Only when I feel lighter and more at peace do I begin my work.
There is a good reason our loved ones on the other side encourage us to be happy and to love one another. It may be one of the most powerful ways to stay healthy, grounded, and connected.
