Do our pets come back, and if they do, do they retain the same species or breed?
Some people believe animals reincarnate and, in some cases, return as humans. Considering our despicable record as a species on this planet, I would consider it an insult if I were an animal and later reincarnated as a human.
Many people who have lost beloved pets experience an inexplicable sense of familiarity when a new animal enters their home and becomes part of the family. They notice the same traits, behaviours, and personality, and in some cases, they feel strongly that the newest member of their family is, indeed, their former pet reincarnated.
I do not know what purpose reincarnation would serve in the animal kingdom, or whether animals learn anything through the process. I will stop short of expressing an opinion because I simply do not know.
We have a two-year-old cat in our home, and we all adore him. There is a look he sometimes gives me that makes me stop in my tracks because I sense an old soul behind his eyes. My wife has felt it too, and there is something strangely fascinating about that shared experience.
