You might be surprised how often I am asked about adoption or stepparenting and how it unfolds on the other side. Do adoptees or stepchildren ultimately align with their biological families or with their adoptive parents? Do they choose? And what of those who lost a partner, then remarried or found new love? With whom do they reunite beyond this life?

The response that came through from Spirit was far simpler than I expected: “There are no boundaries, insecurities, or jealousy on the other side. We make our choices out of love, not fear. The decision is ultimately yours to make.”

I was struck by the idea that reconnections beyond this life resemble those we form here on Earth, yet they are far deeper and extend beyond the limited ways in which we define or perceive love. Healing also plays an essential role in reconnecting with those we cherish, whether in this life or beyond it.

There are circumstances in which connection or reconnection may not be possible because of profound differences, a history of abuse, or other serious wounds. In such cases, although Spirit may offer guidance and support, free will remains sovereign and is always respected.

True love, in its purest form, is unconditional. Such is the love of Spirit.
