Some people believe that when a loved one passes on, they are gone forever, and that any visitation, communication, dream, or sign from them should be ignored.
When my grandfather died, I dreamt that he called me to what appeared to be a beautiful garden. I woke before I had the chance to connect with him, and the next day I shared the dream with my grandmother. She immediately replied that I was fortunate not to have responded to my grandfather, because doing so would have caused me to die and join him. In an agitated tone, she insisted that I must never respond to anyone who has passed away because, according to her, they come back to take us with them.
At the time, I was young, impressionable, and frightened that what she said might be true. Yet I was left with more questions than answers. Her warning unsettled me because I loved my grandfather deeply, and I knew he loved me just as much. I could not imagine him suddenly becoming manipulative or deceitful, using my affection for him to persuade me to do something that would cause me harm. More importantly, why would he want to?
It has now been more than forty years since that experience. During that time, I have had countless visitations from the other side. I have responded to many who have called my name or otherwise made their presence known, and yet I am still here. I do not say that as a challenge, only as an observation. The more I reflect on it, the less sense the belief makes. I have come to the conclusion that this theory is fundamentally flawed and rooted in superstition rather than evidence.
Every day, people around the world report visitations, signs, and other forms of contact from loved ones who have passed. Many describe these experiences as comforting, healing, and deeply reassuring. If a loved one reaches out to you from the other side, acknowledge them. Do not turn your back on them out of fear. Imagine how you would feel if, one day, it were your turn to reach out to those you love, only to find them shunning you because they believed you were trying to lure them to their demise.
