One of my helpers and team members at the church, Alabama, was only 19 when she joined us. I welcomed her to our team because she had displayed incredible courage when she helped me deal with a case of possession so horrific that people literally ran out of the church.
Alabama happened to be in the church that day, coincidentally, to ask if she could join my healing circle. Although I had another volunteer present, it was not enough to withstand the entity’s formidable power and aggression. I found myself at a disadvantage because of the physical attack. I looked at Alabama and asked if she could help. She stood, approached the patient from behind, and placed both hands on her shoulders to restrain her.
My focus was on the hideous entity and on combating it. It did not occur to me at the time that Alabama must have been physically very powerful. The irony was that she was slim-built, always smiling, and had an angelic face. She continued in her service for at least a year before eventually leaving to further her education. During her time with us, she learned a great deal and witnessed some very difficult cases. One day, a family came to see me, and after recounting their painful ordeal with their daughter, Alabama walked out of the church without explanation. I sensed that something was wrong, so I went after her and found her in a side passage, sitting on the ground and crying.
I gave her some space, and between sobs, she apologised. I told her there was no need to apologise. She was hurting because something the family had said had touched a nerve in the poor girl. I offered her some water, spoke to her gently, and held her hand. She gradually calmed down and asked to be allowed back inside. I helped her to her feet. I always felt responsible for her. She was like a daughter to me, and I deeply appreciated her dedication and help.
How interesting, I thought, that this young girl, who had stood fearlessly in the face of some of the harshest and darkest energies I had encountered in my service, could crumble in this way. I let her know that I absolutely respected her sensitivity and how much I appreciated her. I never asked her what had triggered her, nor did she volunteer such information.
Everyone has their cross to bear.
