Someone recently asked me whether animals have spirits and if they survive death just as we do. I believe they do. While I may not be as attuned to animals as I am to humans, I have found that animals occasionally come through during my sessions, reaching out to reconnect with their loved ones. Some have even shared precise and unique details, leaving no doubt in my mind about their continued existence beyond physical death.
What I find most impressive about animals is their empathy and sensitivity. Cats, for example, are often the first to sense when we’re feeling down. They instinctively curl up in our laps or stay close when we need comfort. Some believe cats can absorb negative energy to help heal us; I feel there may be truth to this.
We have a cat (see photo) in our family, and he has an almost magical effect on all of us. When I had a serious accident a couple of months ago, he would sit in my lap and stare at me, as if he knew I was unwell and in need of care. Time and again, animals have proven themselves to be powerful healers and protectors, often helping or even saving humans in times of need.
Perhaps we are viewing things too narrowly, judging from a limited human perspective. It wasn’t long ago that people believed animals lacked emotions or sensitivity. Today, we know better. Not only do animals possess spirits, but they also often demonstrate a depth of feeling and awareness that can surpass our own.
It’s time to move beyond outdated perceptions rooted in human-centred beliefs. Instead, let’s embrace a broader view of life, filled with possibilities, wonder, and the recognition that we are part of a much greater and more interconnected world than we once imagined.
