I have friends from diverse backgrounds, cultures, religions, and races. Many of them do not necessarily believe in life after death, yet we still share deep friendships based on mutual respect and understanding. I never try to convince others of anything related to the paranormal. Everyone has their own perspective on life, and I respect their views, even when they conflict with mine.

I especially value my science-minded friends. They are down-to-earth and honest in expressing their views. They bring a fresh perspective on the paranormal and can also be challenging, but in a constructive way. Some people consider questioning offensive and become defensive. In truth, however, we could all benefit from stepping out of our comfort zones from time to time. Furthermore, if someone is confident in their knowledge, they should not feel the need to be defensive in the first place.

Once, someone told me that they did not believe in God and asked me to prove that God exists. I replied that I could no more prove God’s existence than they could prove God does not exist. They were not very happy with my answer, but we still enjoyed a drink together.

On a lighter note, a doctor once bluntly told me that he did not believe in the paranormal. He implied that people with such abilities were delusional or mentally ill. He emphasised that science holds the key to all answers. He stopped short of directly including me in the “loony bin” and worded his statements carefully so as not to offend. I found the exchange genuinely amusing.

“You know, you’re right. I agree. Science does hold many answers, and good scientists are indeed exceptional in their field. However, I don’t think it is fair to label all people with paranormal abilities as ‘crazy.’”
“Well then, how do you explain it?”

“I can’t, but I know that I am one of the people you mentioned. You will find me offering support or praying for healing in A&E departments for those who need it the most. Yes, I may seem odd to you in many ways, but I can assure you that I have never built a weapon of mass destruction or anything that can harm a living being. Scientists have. So, in my book, and with all due respect, that is true madness.”

Life often presents us with opposite extremes in everything.
