In this age of instant results, when we have all been conditioned to expect everything immediately, where does that leave the discovery and development of our abilities?
Discovering and developing our abilities naturally takes time and a great deal of patience. No aspect of this journey can be rushed, nor should we expect instant results.
One reason this process requires time is that it is directly linked to our mental, emotional, and spiritual growth and maturity. Looking back on my own journey, I cannot imagine being the same reader and healer forty years ago as I am today. Yes, I was always sensitive and intuitive. Still, I lacked the people skills and life experiences that have enabled me to develop the empathy and compassion that are essential to being of genuine service to others.
Ability is only a small part of the calling. Far more important is the willingness to let go of dogma and embrace our true purpose here on Earth: to serve others and help them discover their own purpose, self-worth, and capacity for love. I always listen with interest when people describe their abilities, and many of them are truly fascinating. However, unless those abilities are used in the service of God and others, I believe they serve little meaningful purpose.
Some people describe these abilities as a gift. I do not see them that way, because they carry such immense responsibility; I have reached a breaking point many a time, at all levels. Yet, I persevered because of my faith in the greater good. What I do feel is profoundly blessed, not because of the ability itself, but because God chose to allow me to be in His service and to serve the wonderful people on both sides of life.
