For some people, finding happiness after losing a loved one is extremely difficult. They feel overwhelmed by sadness and guilt, believing that they should not, and perhaps cannot, be happy when someone they love has died. Of course, everyone is entitled to grieve in their own way, and we should respect their need for space as they move through that process. I am referring to those who have moved beyond the initial stages of mourning, yet still choose to deny themselves happiness and enjoyment.

Happiness is one of the most important elements of a fulfilling life and is essential to our personal growth. Throughout my sessions, many spirits have expressed how important it is for them to see their loved ones on Earth living happily. They do not want us to deprive ourselves of the things that bring us joy, whether that is laughter, companionship, recreation, or simple pleasures. They do not want to see us dressed in black indefinitely or neglecting our own well-being. There is no benefit in choosing a life of misery.

On the contrary, our suffering can cause sadness for those in spirit because it is not what they would wish for us. If we truly want our loved ones to rest in peace, then we should strive to live well, embrace life, and become the best version of ourselves. In doing so, we reassure them that we are safe, healing, and moving forward.

In some cultures, people continue to wear black for the rest of their lives after the loss of a loved one, believing it to be a sign of respect and remembrance. While such traditions deserve understanding and respect, they can also keep grief permanently at the forefront of a person’s life, making it more difficult to embrace the present and the future.

Be happy. Life is for living, and our loved ones on the other side want to see us fulfilled and joyful, making the most of the time we have.
