Do you believe in the power of healing through prayer?
As someone often called to attend to gravely ill patients, some with life-threatening conditions, I frequently encounter this question. While I am often referred to as a healer, I am not the source of the healing. However, I firmly believe in the power of prayer. Prayer, when coupled with faith and deep conviction, can have a profound impact. This conviction must be genuine and come from the depths of one’s heart, rooted in a sincere desire for the patient to recover.
Healing through prayer is a sacred practice that demands respect. Those who serve as instruments of healing should never assume they are the healers themselves, for the true healing comes from a divine source. The mechanisms of healing are beyond our comprehension; it is only through divine intervention that such a level of healing can occur. From my experience, love is at the heart of healing. It drives us to help others unconditionally. Prayers must be heartfelt; otherwise, they lose their significance. I have visited homes and hospitals where relatives play recorded prayers on repeat, hoping for the patient’s improvement. While this gesture is admirable, it often feels mechanical and soulless, and I doubt its effectiveness.
The beauty of healing lies in the service and the connection made between the healer and the patient. Though I hesitate to use the term ‘magical,’ those who have experienced this level of service understand that it feels magical in every sense. Unfortunately, not all patients are destined to be healed, and some ailments may remain incurable. Yet, even in these cases, there are still benefits to be gained. Nothing brings me greater joy than seeing a patient improve, recover, and live their life fully. Once my service is complete, I quietly move on, often before the patient or their family has a chance to offer thanks, treats, or gifts. I have never charged for healing and have always covered my own expenses. Healing is a gift, and it should be valued and cherished as such.
