I was attending to a patient in the hospital who had just come out of A&E. His chances of survival were slim due to a severe brain injury from a serious car accident. The patient was a young man in his early twenties, and I felt it was my duty to visit him every other day. Though doubts and insecurities tried to creep in, I chose to push them aside and persevere. I spent hours by his bedside, often kneeling in prayer, feeling deeply connected to his family and wanting to do everything I could for them.
With each visit, I saw visible signs of improvement. One day, to everyone’s surprise, he became communicative and started speaking. His speech was halting at first, and we struggled to understand him, but over time, his ability to speak improved. Eventually, we were having lively conversations. He especially enjoyed when I cracked silly jokes, and we would laugh together over the silliest things. Our shared sense of humor helped us bond as friends.
On one particular day, his family members were present in the room as I stood by his bedside, holding his hand. Suddenly, I felt as if I had drifted away, lost in a moment of peace. When I opened my eyes and looked at the clock, I realized that over an hour had passed. The young man had fallen into a deep sleep, and his family members were staring at me in shock. They told me they had seen a bright light surrounding me, so intense that they had to shut their eyes. I was just as puzzled as they were, but deep down, I believed that blessed angels were at work, helping the boy heal.
I cannot fully explain what happened that day, but it strengthened my resolve to serve to the best of my ability. After a few months, the patient was discharged from the hospital and returned to his studies, eventually finding his place in the family business. He continues to fight every day, determined to improve himself in every way.
