My sister once employed a domestic helper from the Philippines named Suzan. She was young, hard-working, and generally kept to herself. One day, as part of her routine duties, Suzan went on her own to the ground-floor apartment where our grandparents had lived before their passing. She had cleaned the apartment many times before, but this time, something unusual occurred.
My sister vividly recalls hearing Suzan scream from the ground-floor apartment. Fearing an accident, she rushed down the stairs to see what had happened. She found Suzan leaning against the wall near the entrance, visibly shaken. When asked what was wrong, Suzan explained that she had seen an older woman in a white nightgown walking across the corridor.
When my sister asked Suzan to describe the woman in detail, she was shocked to hear an accurate description of our grandmother. Suzan had described her precisely, down to the old-fashioned white nightgown our grandmother often wore. The unsettling part was that Suzan had never met my grandmother, nor had she ever seen a photo of her. After that encounter, Suzan refused to go to my grandparent’s apartment alone.
Years later, a clairvoyant told me that my grandmother had not yet “crossed over” to the other side because she needed to apologise to me and others for her hurtful actions. Indeed, my grandmother had caused distress to many people during her lifetime, so I often wonder.
