What happens to individuals who have mental illness, dementia, Alzheimer’s, cognitive impairment, and similar conditions when they pass away? How do they cope with their new reality? Do they even know they are on the other side?

At first, they may not be aware of their new reality. However, with time, subtle guidance, and gentle healing, they gradually begin to understand and reintegrate. The process is never rushed. Great care is taken to help these delicate souls find their way at their own pace.

I am familiar with the general idea, inspired by another source that offered me some understanding to share with those whose loved ones experienced such conditions before transitioning. While I grasp the broader picture, I am not fully versed in the technical aspects.
What I find particularly compelling is that during many sessions, loved ones who had suffered from these conditions came through with remarkable clarity. They offered strong evidence of their survival beyond death. It was especially striking that those who had dementia or similar impairments were somehow aware of their loved ones still living and were able to recall specific memories. This often came as a touching surprise to my clients. It suggests that even when cognition appears to be severely impaired, the person is still capable of sensing and feeling the world around them.

My father is currently suffering from advanced dementia. Although he is no longer very coherent, I continue to communicate with him through the universal language of love. It is the best, and perhaps the only, thing I can offer him now. I take comfort in believing that he understands me, perhaps in a different way, but I pray that he feels my love.
