One of the most critical aspects of our development is to come to terms with trusting our intuition. Most of us will ignore the ‘nagging voice’ that occasionally raises the alarm as we feel compelled to make sense of situations using our minds instead of our feelings. Sadly, males fall behind females in this aspect, perhaps due to ignorance, arrogance or over-confidence. Females have learned to trust their instincts far better, and it is almost second nature to them. They need it to better their chances of not being hurt or to survive.
Over the years, I learned to respect and acknowledge my limitations. I always consult with my wife as her intuition and perception exceed my ability at this level.
It is intriguing that when we ignore our gut instinct or go against our intuition, life dishes out severe penalties for doing so. Most people from broken relationships tell me that they felt something about their partner long before things ended, but they ignored the feeling to give their partners a chance or the benefit of the doubt. Some hope that their partners will change, but they rarely do. Consequently, the suffering is two-fold because they ignored their intuition, so resentment, anger and self-loathing creep in.
Victims of various crimes have also shared with me how they had a ‘feeling’ about something or someone but chose to ignore it and paid a dear price.
Life is harsh and can be unforgiving, and you are blessed with an inner voice; make it your best friend, not your enemy.
