Direct voice phenomena is a fascinating facet of the paranormal that I wish I had witnessed or experienced myself.
One leading direct voice medium was Leslie Flint, who was based in England. He held many sittings where he sat in complete darkness with clients, and the spirits spoke through a ‘voice box’ formed in his vicinity. It is believed that the voice box is made from ectoplasm that emanates from the medium and that the voices were very much the voices of those on the other side.
Mr. Flint was subjected to rigorous testing and scientific studies. He was shackled, bound, gagged, and his mouth taped shut securely, with every measure taken to eliminate the possibility that he was using ventriloquism or any other means to cheat and produce the voices. He could not be proven a fraud and left the scientific community baffled. What I found most intriguing is that the voices also spoke in their native tongues, so they were not limited to English. The sitters and clients acknowledged the voices as belonging to their owners.
One of the engaging sessions involved Oscar Wilde’s voice. He came through with his typical dry wit and humour and described some aspects of the other side. Mr Wilde’s son confirmed that the voice was that of his father, without a doubt.
Recordings of some of these sessions are available on YouTube, and Leslie Flint’s book Voices in the Dark can also be purchased online. It makes fascinating reading. Mr. Flint passed on to the other side a few years ago, leaving an incredible legacy in the paranormal field behind him.
