Are extrasensory abilities hereditary? Would I have inherited any from my parents or grandparents, and would I pass them on to my offspring? I have often pondered this question, wondering why I was born so different from the rest of my family.

My father was a down-to-earth, matter-of-fact civil engineer who did not believe in anything beyond the tangible. He referred to anything otherworldly as “hocus pocus.” It was amusing at times, but also painful, because his attitude created a sense of distance between us. The only person who resembled me, even in a limited way, was my mother. Her intuition was remarkable and often helped my father navigate challenges in his business, but her ability seemed to end there.

Although I have a good relationship with most of my family members, there is a distinct dividing line between us. I am not like them and cannot fully be one of them, and they, in turn, do not feel part of my world. From a positive perspective, however, this difference has served as a kind of filter, revealing my true friends and loved ones, those who accept me for who I am.

As I grow older, I am learning to appreciate my ability more than ever. It has brought me close to many people I might never have met otherwise, particularly through the sessions we share. Someone once told me that the path of a reader and healer is a lonely one, but I do not believe that is necessarily true. It depends on the individual and on how open we choose to be with others.

In some ways, I wish this ability were hereditary, so that I could pass it on to my daughter. She could continue serving others, and perhaps it would also bring my family closer to my experience. Maybe it is not meant to be. Perhaps this is the way it is meant to unfold. Who can say?
