Never underestimate a child’s intuition; they are highly attuned to the unseen. If a child says they are hearing or seeing something, do not simply dismiss it as imagination. There is a good chance they are experiencing something real. Whatever you do, take the time to comfort and reassure them; brushing it off without doing so may leave them anxious and confused.
Do not let your fear get in the way; children will sense it, which may unsettle them even more. They need security, clarity, and guidance to avoid further confusion or fear. Be honest about your feelings; this teaches them more than you realize, even if it means showing vulnerability.
Sometimes, a touch of humour can help shift the energy of the situation. When my daughter was four, she was playing in our bedroom when she suddenly froze in front of the bathroom entrance. She started backing away, her eyes locked on something unseen, her tiny finger pointing at a space. I knew she was seeing something. I approached her gently, hugged her, and asked if she was okay. She was too afraid to explain what she saw.
I softly pulled her back to ease her fear and assured her I would handle it. Then, I started making silly karate moves, kicking and punching the air, saying, “Take that! And that!” My daughter giggled and laughed; from then on, she was never afraid again.
Please do not fear the other side when it comes to children. They are stronger than you think, and blessed angels watch over them.
